AA European breakdown cover

The AA's European cover is one of the most comprehensive on the market, with a long territorial list, generous accommodation benefits and the extras that cheaper policies leave out. It is priced accordingly.

Options

Single-trip cover for a set number of days, or annual multi-trip cover with a day allowance (typically 90 days a year, with a per-trip cap) that can be added to AA UK membership. Both include 24-hour English-speaking assistance, roadside repair, towing, a contribution to garage labour, accommodation or car hire, and repatriation of the vehicle and passengers.

What stands out

  • Extras as standard on the higher tiers: replacement driver, spare-parts shipping, cover for the journey to the UK port.
  • Higher accommodation and hire-car limits than budget rivals.
  • A broad territorial list including some countries that cheaper policies exclude.
  • EV recovery to a charge point abroad.

What to check

  • Whether your UK membership level affects the European benefits.
  • The repatriation limit against your car's value.
  • Per-trip day limits on annual cover.

How it compares

If you tour for weeks at a time, drive an older or more valuable car, or want the reassurance of the fullest package, the AA earns its premium. For a fortnight in Brittany in a five-year-old hatchback, Green Flag or an insurer-branded policy will do the job for less. Compare on the European page.
