We are looking for European breakdown cover to insure our car and our motorcycles. Is it possible to get this type of group cover?
Yes, through personal rather than vehicle cover. A personal European policy covers the named person in any eligible vehicle they are driving or riding, so one policy covers you in the car and on the bike. Add your partner as a joint member and both of you are covered on either machine. The AA, RAC and Green Flag all offer personal European cover that includes motorcycles; check that the bike's engine size and type are within the policy terms.
The catch is that personal cover applies to the vehicle you are in at the time. If you and your partner are travelling in convoy, one in the car and one on a bike, each needs to be a named member. If several friends are touring on separate bikes, each rider needs their own cover; a group discount is rare.
