I am having difficulty finding out whether any of the major breakdown providers put an age limit on the owner of a car requiring breakdown cover.
The major motoring organisations do not. The AA, RAC and GEM Motoring Assist will cover a driver of any age who holds a licence, and Green Flag's standard policies have no upper age limit either. Where limits exist, they are on products underwritten by insurers and sold under a retailer, bank or insurer brand, and they are usually buried in the eligibility conditions rather than the marketing.
The age limit you are more likely to hit is on the car. Many budget and white-label policies exclude vehicles over 10, 12 or 16 years old. If you drive an older car, start with the providers above, all of which cover older vehicles on standard terms.
