Petrol to hit £1 a litre
(19-07-07) - The AA (www.TheAA.com) has warned that rising crude oil prices could soon push the cost of motoring even higher with petrol prices expected to top £1 a litre.
Its June fuel report showed that as crude oil prices went as high as $71 a barrel - a ten month high - the national average for unleaded went up to 97ppl while diesel also went up slightly, to 97.4ppl.
High demand from the US and China, combined with security fears in Nigeria - a major source of world oil consumption - are keeping prices high, while planned maintenance to some of the North Sea oil rigs is helping to cement the expected rise to £1 a litre in the UK.
Chris Eagle, BreakdownChoices.co.uk commercial manager, said: “We’re nearing an all-time high for petrol in Britain, with the AA saying that prices are ‘almost certain’ to reach £1 a litre.
“This will hit drivers in rural areas first, who will have less choice about where they refill. Drivers should go to www.PetrolPrices.com and enter their postcode to find the cheapest petrol prices in their area."
