Dear Chris, I know that it’s illegal to drive a car in the UK without insurance, but is it illegal to drive a car on UK roads without breakdown insurance?

Currently breakdown insurance is optional for UK drivers, unlike car insurance.
The government is however currently considering whether to make breakdown insurance a legal requirement.
